On the 22nd of November, Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute (CLGTI) held its 20th Diploma Graduation Ceremony which characterised by pomp and splendour. The event, which marked a significant milestone in the lives of 136 graduands, was graced by the Permanent Secretary- Administration in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Maambo B. Haamaundu, as the Guest of Honour.
The Principal of CLGTI, Mr. James Paipi, warmly welcomed the assembly with an inspiring opening address in which he highlighted numerous achievements scored by the institution in the area of Capacity Building for Local Authorities. Among the notable achievements highlighted by the Principal were;
The introduction in 2025 of CDF supported Skills Development Programme and the Master’s Degree Programmes to be offered in Conjunction with Mulungushi University and the Institute of Local Government Administrators of Zambia (ILGAZ)
The Principal informed the assembly that the 136 graduands were drawn from the following four diploma programs:
- Diploma in Rural and Urban Management: 50 candidates
- Diploma in Local Government Administration: 65 candidates
- Diploma in Local Government Finance: 15 candidates
- Diploma in Records Management: 6 candidates
In his keynote address, the Guest of Honour, Mr. Maambo B. Haamaundu appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Development Bank of Germany (KfW), GIZ, SMART Zambia, and other stakeholders in supporting the modernization of the institute’s physical and ICT infrastructure including the recent establishment of the institute’s e-learning platform. He noted how this transformation of CLGTI has contributed to effective service delivery in local authorities through the modernized delivery of institutional and human capacity development programmes.
In Addressing the graduands, Mr. Haamaundu shared the following motivational words:
“Graduation does not mark the end but the beginning of a new chapter, where the skills and knowledge you have acquired will be tested in the real world. Today is the culmination of years of hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. As you move forward, remember that success is not just measured by your qualifications but by how you use them to effect positive change.”
The event was a vibrant cultural showcase, enriched by performances from the Lilayi Police Brass Band, the Chalimbana University Cultural Group, and the Chalimbana University Band. The multi-talented and charismatic Mutinta Saliyah Miyanda, popularly known as Vubwi was the Master of Ceremonies.
The ceremony concluded with a resounding sense of achievement and optimism for the future as graduates celebrated their success with family, friends, and the institute’s staff. Chalimbana Local Government Training Institute continues to serve as a beacon of academic excellence and professional development in Zambia, nurturing future leaders in local governance and administration.
