Further Education for Lecturers at CLGTI

Launch of an online course on the Moodle platform

The CLGTI provides a variety of programmes and courses to build capacity of local authorities by training its staff, elected representatives and chiefs. Hence, the educational mission of the institute goes beyond providing education for the local authorities but includes that also the staff of CLGTI is aware of the state-of-the-art research and developments. As the lecturers at the institute conduct research, provide consultancy as well as organise and hold up classes for the students of CLGTI, opportunities to further educate themselves are crucial for the excellency in adult education of the institute.

In an era of continuous change – especially in the digital age – it is of utmost importance that also the lecturers at such an educational institute have the possibility to further educate themselves. The CLGTI has the ambition to enable its lecturers a learning journey next to the daily work at the institute. In that sense, the CLGTI is proud to promote the “Open Education, Copyright and Open Licensing in a Digital World” on its Moodle platform. This is a pioneer course – targeting to educate the lecturers in the essential area of copyright in the digital world – and is, hopefully, followed by other online modules fundamental for the work of the lecturers at CLGTI.

This online module explains and elaborates on the legal framework of the use of Open Educational Resources (OER). Divided in 6 sections, this self-paced online course encompasses a variety of topics and sheds light on the topic of copyright from multiple angles. With the premise of the importance of openness for learning in the digital age, the course defines OER, clarifies how copyright works in the digital world and presents the details of creative common licenses. The knowledge is communicated on the basis of real-life examples and exercises and tests using real-world problems in the digital age.

Beyond the content of this online module developed by UNESCO and its partners, the implementation of the course on the CLGTI’s Moodle is a milestone for the fostering of continuous learning at the institute.
