1. Introduction

The Bachelor of Development planning and Management is intended to explore concepts, principles, theories, and techniques that play an important role in shaping our development goals and priorities by focusing on development in all areas including input management to outputs as well as private sector and market development.

2. Rationale

The programme will help develop skills as well as competencies that are needed to understand and respond to key aspects of development planning at the global, regional and community level in order to facilitate achievement of long term economic growth and sustainable development.

3. Aims of the Programme

The aim of the Bachelor of Development Planning and Management is to produce graduates equipped with knowledge, competences, analytical and research skills in the field of global and local processes focused on poverty reduction, planning and development strategies as well as economic and ecological processes and social practice.

4. Programme Objectives

1. Analyse and apply existing theories from a multidisciplinary field of development and planning studies.

2. Recognize how international development trends such as climate change, migration, and urbanization manifest in local processes of continuity and change.

3. Critically assess the utilization of knowledge about the most relevant management and planning methods as tools for sustainable development and participative planning.

4. Apply conceptual and theoretical knowledge to real-life situations and contexts.

5. Apply knowledge and skills to inform management and decision-making processes in both the private and public sectors.

5. Entry Requirement

Prospective students must satisfy the following entry requirements as specified in the General Regulations:

Option 1
Must have passed Grade 12 or Form V with a minimum of credit in at least five subjects including English Language; OR

Option 2
‘O’ Level certificate from a recognized Examination Board with a minimum of grade C in at least five subjects including English Language; OR

Option 3
‘A’ Level certificate from a recognized Examination Board with passes in the English Language and any other recognized equivalents subjects.

Students possessing a diploma from a recognized College (recognized by Mulungushi University) shall enter into the programme at Year 2.

6. Duration

The Bachelors programme will be for four (4) years.
